"MERCHANT GISZE" by Hans Holbein It was popular in the 15th and 16th centuries for European artists to include Turkish carpets in their paintings and frescoes. The carpet on the table came to be known as a "Holbein" style because of this painting. Some other notables are: Piero della Francesco, Domenico Ghirlandaio an Carlo Crivelli -- but not all had patterns named after them. |
